Company: Gro ‘n Sell, Inc.

Description: Gro ‘n Sell, Inc., a wholesale distributor of starter plants, needed a simple yet effective set of online tools that allowed its customers to get information about the company’s product lines, as well as check on product availability. To meet this demand, I worked with the company’s internal inventory software vendor to get scheduled custom availability feeds sent to the web server, where the info is parsed and stored in the MySQL database. Not only can the customer view availability by product line or custom search, but they can also opt-in to receive weekly email updates.

Description: This is the beta version of Mjedi, an innovative tool that allows anyone to send in an SMS message with the UPC number of a product they would like to track. If that product is in our database, the user would receive an SMS alert when the product went on sale. This gives retail shoppers the ability to find out when a product goes on sale without having to return to the store. Facebook integration was added to give users the option to auto-publish a story to their profile when they started tracking an item.

Group: Bethesda Oaks Development (a Ryan Homes community)

Description: I created this site for the residents of the Bethesda Oaks community located outside of Charlotte, NC. It is a private, registered users only, forum for neighbors to get the latest updates on activities within the neighborhood, upcoming town hall meetings, as well as crime watch information. The site also has Twitter integration so neighbors can get instant updates when new articles are posted to the site.

Description: I worked with the OTA to create several search add-ons to their existing content management system (SimpleCMS). The search features allow the users to search for either an organic producer or processor, search by region, or find key information resources for growing organic.

Company: Northeast Organic Dairy Producers Alliance (NODPA)
Web Development: L-Soft’s ListServ, C# (.NET)
Description: NODPA was using the free-hosted Yahoo Groups service to communicate with all of its members about the Organic Dairy industry. They had quickly outgrown the free solution and brought me in to install, configure and test L-Soft’s ListServ mailing list software on their dedicated managed web server. I worked with the web hosting provider to get root access to the Linux web server in order to perform the installation. To ease the transition from Yahoo Groups to the new ListServ, a screen-scraping utility was written in C# to pull all message content and headers from Yahoo and dump the info to text files. ListServ’s “import” functionality was used to bring in all those older messages into the new software, retaining the value of information from the old mailing list provider.
